Canada: LG Optimus 4X HD to debut in October with Wind Mobile and Videotron.

LG Electronics (LG) Canada announced today that the Optimus 4X HD will debut in Canada in October and will be available through WIND Mobile and Videotron. Beyond the fast NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, LG's latest Android 4.0 device boasts a higher density battery for more power and longer run times and a superb high resolution viewing experience with its 4.7-inch True HD IPS display. Since its debut at Mobile World Congress, the Optimus 4X HD has been upgraded with new SiO+ battery technology, Quick Memo to enhance productivity, and Media Plex for an advanced multimedia experience. "The Optimus 4X HD offers incredible speed and performance without compromising battery life," said Geoff McMurdo, Vice President Mobile Communications, LG Electronics Canada. "Users want intuitive software and beautiful hardware and the Optimus 4X HD is another proof point that LG is a strong player in both areas." The Optimus 4X HD is fitted with NVIDIA's 4-PLUS-1 Quad-Core mobile processor, the Tegra® 3, which utilizes a fifth core for the best blend of outstanding performance and power efficiency. For maximum performance, Tegra® 3 runs on all four cores, but when in standby mode the processor defaults to the fifth, battery-saver core. In a future upgrade, LG will introduce Eco-Mode specifically for the Optimus 4X HD which will allow users to manually shut down any of the Tegra 3's cores for even more control over power consumption and performance. Enhanced User Experience QuickMemo - allows users to write, draw, or jot a memo with their finger directly on any captured screen for instant sharing as an attachment or URL Media Plex - a collection of software features that take image and video playback on the smartphone to a level that until now was only possible on a PC or laptop. LTE: Huawei launches the Ascend P1 LTE smartphone. Video Promo.

Huawei announced availability of its Ascend P1 LTE smartphone, describing it as “the device compatible with the highest number of frequency bands”. As previously announced, it will initially be available in the UK through Everything Everywhere, with other markets set to follow.

According to the Chinese company, Ascend P1 LTE is being tested on operator networks across Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia Pacific regions. It is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Earlier this year, Huawei revealed aggressive smartphone targets for 2012,looking to ship 60 million devices – compared with 20 million in 2011. Much of the growth will come from its home market, as customers transition from smartphones to feature phones.

The company is already offering a non-LTE version of the Ascend P1 worldwide, and has created a TD-SCDMA market for China Mobile.

MSFT readying for the Surface launch, opens new stores in the USA and Canada.

The new stores are important to Microsoft, since the company's Surface tablet will only sold at its own retail locations (as well as online). Adding another dozen stores to the 31 Microsoft Stores either already open or planning to open soon will give Microsoft's tablet a much-needed boost.

According to Microsoft's job postings, new stores will be opening in the following cities: Natick and Braintree, Massachusetts; St. Louis, Missouri; Cleveland, Ohio; Portland, Oregon; San Francisco, California; San Antonio, Texas; Chicago, Illinois, New York, New York; two locations in Miami, Florida; and Vancouver, British Columbia and one in Toronto,Ontario.

Since the Surface is exclusively sold at retail through Microsoft's own stores, it gives customers an extra reason to walk through the door. Surface generated a lot of positive buzz for the company when it was announced in June.

RIM`s Blackberry Playbook will be launching via Bell, and probably other Canadian carriers, on Tuesday, July 31st, 2012. According to the internal Bell document Mobilesyrup  received it shows the price will be $549.95 outright.

The device will come with a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE (and HSPA+), OS 2.0, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera that shoots 1080p HD videos, 3MP front-facing camera, 4800 mAh battery and will only come in a 32GB version. Overall dimensions are 130 x 193 x 9.7mm and weighs in at 425 grams.

Canada: Future Shop selling the Rogers Samsung Galaxy SIII for $129,99

The offer is available through Future Shop, though users will have to head over to a retail location to grab a unit. 

The new mobile phone with a three-year contract agreement with Rogers will have to pay only $129.99 (€107) for the phone today. 

Rogers still selling the device for $159,99

The price tag applies to the 16 GB flavor of the smartphone, which still offers support for MicroSD memory cards of up to 64GB.
